Brow Do's and Don't s

Do’s and Don’ts

Do…

  • Be in a well lit room with a mirror

    • Avoid hand mirrors, one should be able to see both eyes at all times

    • Free from distractions, give your brows the attention they deserve

The warmer, the less painful

  • It’s important to note that before attempting to do your brows on your own, the skin needs to be plain, clean, and particularly warm. Taking a warm shower or using a warm washcloth is advised because with warm skin comes open pores, so the pain usually inhibited while doing your brows is minimized entirely. I find that morning time is the best, right after a shower with the light is at its peak. Waiting until the end of the day could be risky, as we’ve all had long days that seem to lead to a surprise Zoom Cocktail hour is going to lead to a potentially scary situation. The skin should be free of any product, oil, or cream, which may, in turn, result in irritation of the skin or over/under plucking in areas in which they do not need to be plucked. I would recommend a good micellar water to ensure the skin is clean before starting into your brows.

  • Make a plan or plan to fail

    • Place your index finger between your brows. Using a white eyeliner pencil, gently draw a line on each side of your finger and outline the shape of your intended brows. By coloring the stray hairs, it makes it easier to identify the ones you want to yank and make them mirror the other side of your face. We want identical twins here, not long cousins four times removed. Then, using the Medium Slant Tweezer, remove the hairs in the middle and those colored with the white eyeliner pencil. The Point Tweezers is the best tool for getting the micro-tiny hairs removed.

  • Brush up, cut tops

    • From the Luxe Brow Kit, start with the Spoolie and brush your brows up. While still holding the Spoolie,  get the scissors and trim the longest hairs, a few at a time. You want a natural look, not a severe drastic looking buzzed cut. Taking the time to brush up the brows a few times to make sure that they are even is going to give a more consistent look. Make sure to be continuously scanning from left to right and right to left, to ensure the symmetry of the two brows is consistent.

  • Saying goodbye to myths on women shaving facial hair

    • I’m obsessed with the Japonesque Pro Performance touch up razor. I use it as a final step to clean up peach fuzz and unwanted hair around the brow or lip area for a flawless finish.

    • Just so we’re clear, don’t use this to pluck the eyebrow hairs, but rather on the unwanted facial hairs in the surrounding areas of the upper brow, lip, and other miscellaneous facial hair. This tool ensures to leave you looking flawless, without unwanted hair that gets in the way of both makeup, cleansers, serums, lotions, and toners. The Pro Performance Touch Up Razor ensures that one doesn't get the thicker, darker hair that we were told by our mother’s mother we’d get if we used any tool on our faces. This tool, in particular, helps falsify those myths.

  • Color between the lines

    • No matter who you are, everyone needs to fill in their brows a bit. It doesn’t matter if your brows are waxed to a t, the subtle shading with an eyebrow pencil or shadow (matching the color of your brows) ensures the Kim Kardashian West famous flawless look of soft brows. Framing of the brows only makes your eye makeup look bolder, bigger, and better in the grand scheme of things even if you're looking for a subtle eye. One of the aspects of huge benefits of having properly groomed brows is that it literally takes years off your fact, making them look bigger, brighter, and more prominent on one’s face.

  • The cherry on top:

    • Make sure to clean your tools with soap and water, to ensure they are clean for the next use and free of bacteria that could lead to potential skin issues and infections.

    • Using aloe vera and/or Ice will cool the surrounding irritated ares, to diminish swelling and inflammation from the tweezing.

Don’t…

  • Don’t get ahead of yourself

    • Pluck one hair at a time. It’s easy to get overly frustrated and yank too many hairs at once. This can be disastrous when trying to make everything on one side mirror the other side. Take it slow, pluck one hair at a time to ensure that you’re sticking to your plan.

  • You’re not a disfigured freak

    • Don’t get caught up thinking you’re a disfigured freak because one brow looks different than the other. No one’s brows are completely symmetrical, but as a makeup artist and someone teaching you the tricks of the trade, it’s my job and now yours, to create the illusion that they are symmetrical.
